Wedding Industry in Malaysia

If someone is thinking about entering the Wedding Industry in Malaysia, PLEASE do!

There are plenty of potentials for improvements, for starter:

a. Way of doing business by some service providers i.e. restaurant chains and hotels

If you are based in overseas, you have to call from overseas to do business with them. Wonder who is paying the moola? And the worse thing is that a whole chunk of it ultimately goes to these restaurants and hotels. Just bloody pick-up the phone and call your overseas customers, would not even cost you RM500, compare to at least RM20,000 we have to pay you. Or if you are really not keen on making overseas calls, REPLY the Email, even if it has to take you more than 2 weeks to do so.

Some of them also went extra miles, you are either required to have "minimum tables" or pay minimum revenue, which in KL would easily be RM30,000. So, either you invite the whole village to attend your wedding, or you probably have to get a loan or work your butts off to get those money. What's more? The menu price lists do increase every year. Some hotels even have theirs increased by 15% per year.

b. Responsiveness to queries

Hey, we are talking business here. Be more responsive to the queries. If it is so hard to maintain relationship with your very keen clients, and you don't even make the effort to improve the situation, just stop wasting your capital and your clients' precious time. Perhaps just donate the capital to people who needs it. It will definitely make Malaysia a better place.

The worse thing is that, you tried getting answers from these people, at one end, they failed to respond to your queries timely, on the other hand, and eventually, they will contact you and indirectly threaten you that IF you don't confirm by settling the deposit, they have to pass the offer to someone else. Huh!

c. Attitude of doing business

I was told by friends the attitude of service providers of some wedding service providers and photography companies BEFORE and AFTER you commit with their services.

I can only say, do your research thoroughly, know what you want them to deliver, make sure you have everything written down. If you have not been acting like a bridezilla, good luck and pray hard that services will be delivered as per your standards.

I wonder if one has to even bring his / her attorney along!

d. The cost of doing business

The thing is, if you are so well-off, really, there will not be any problem paying your way out to get everything done beautifully, and more often than not, overpaid for what you are entitled to receive.

Many has already formed a judgment that this is an expensive industry and most people have no choice but to succumb to paying what they could not or barely afford, on the basis of "this is once in a lifetime, do it now, or else we will regret". The reality is that, there are plenty of people who could not afford that kind of extravaganzas. Businesses need to be more realistic and less commercial in their approach.

Wedding is suppose to be a beautiful and memorable.
