I have been researching about this place in KL, the Bankers Club, ever since the day I stumbled across with a few of the photos taken by Jim Liaw. Everything there looks simple, yet elegant. It was quite difficult to find photos of this place online initially. However, over the time span of at least 3 months, I finally found quite a number of them before paying a visit back home in Jan09.
The first impression of walking into this place was "homey". The venue has a split level restaurant, and comes with a lounge area with sofa seats. This is not a place for conventional wedding. There is no permanent stage, and backdrop available in the venue. However, in my view, this is my first choice for hosting a medium sized wedding.
What I like about the venue
1. The ambience e.g. the chandelier, stair case for procession & the split level balcony
2. A great place to host medium sized banquet for approx. 250 pax
3. Simple, yet competitive & inviting wedding packages
Wedding Packages
Bankers Club is quite flexible in terms of the wedding package deliverable. Shangkar, the Manager, is friendly and easy to approach. There were only 2 packages available for Year 2009, but I was only looking at spending $1k per table. Best of all, it is HALAL, which mean I do not have to look for another venue to invite our Malay friends.
Both packages come with chair tie, white table cloth, table napkin, floral arrangement for main table, temporary stage, one projector & mic, portable dance floor, champagne fountain, a three tier EDIBLE wedding cake, a pianist for cocktail session and tid bits.
The package also allows client to use their lounge for wedding blessing ceremony after 2pm and pre-banquet cocktail session. Client could also use one of the meeting rooms for tea ceremony.
How I would do it differently
The dance floor. I would relocate that in the heart of the banquet hall. However, in order to do so, you have to have 25 tables and below.
What might turns you off
1. It is in the heart of KL - yes, it is the traffic condition you have to think about
2. Split level structure of the restaurant
3. No backdrop (which, I am sure this could be fixed)
Sadly, both CJ and his mum dislike the place for a few good reasons. Otherwise, I would have gone for it.
