As a kid, I have always dreamt of playing the piano in a beautiful church, watching my favourite TVB series couples, namely Leon Lai and Miss Chow walk down the aisle. I was proud of myself in the dream, and I was certainly happy for the couple. That was so many years ago now.
Never really dreamt of myself walking down the aisle, really. Just didn’t cross my mind that it will happen to me during my younger days.
Next year, I will be married to my closest friend. It’s natural for us to start thinking if we should opt for a conventional Chinese wedding, or a more westernised one.
Seems easy enough to choose, but trust me, being ME… nothing’s too easy. We both love the idea of getting married in a nice cosy little Chapel and have our blessing session done there. I have to admit that I prefer to be in a Chapel than a Chinese temple even though back then, I wasn’t a Christian. On the other hand, we would also love to have a ‘Jip-Sun-Leong’ and tea ceremony session with our love ones. Nice little Chinese customs to keep indeed.
Maybe scrap the ‘Dai-Kam-Che’ and forget about what the auspicious time we must abide and just go with the flow on the day. Scrap that traditional ‘Goh-Dai-Lai’, and just have a simple get-together, bridal shower and exchanging of presents instead.
I guess, at the end of the day, it’s how we enjoy our big day and manage our married life that matter the most.
